Lunar New Year Yum Cha Event

Lunar New Year Yum Cha Event
Year of the Boar
18 February 2007

Cultural ConneXions held their inaugural event and launch of  the company, Cultural ConneXions as part of the Lunar New Year Yum Cha lunch held at Canton Palace in Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains.

It was a wonderful attendance of over 60 people and their families who enjoyed the rare treat of a yum cha brunch in the Mountains hosted in partnership with Cultural ConneXions and Brian Liu, owner of Canton Palace who specially arranged the special Chinese delicacies served in piping hot bamboo baskets.

The guests were greeted with ‘Gung Hei Fat Choy’ (Chinese Cantonese language for ‘Happy New Year!’) to celebrate the Year of the Boar and presented with a lucky red envelope with a sweet and a symbolic gold chocolate coin as part of taste of the Chinese New Year customs. The lucky door prizes were also popular with the guests especially the children with surprise gifts.

We also had the pleasure of listening to three local Asian speakers and residents, Kyung Mi-Cho born in Korea, Suzanne Victor born in Singapore and Jiang Ling from China. All three speakers engaged the guests with their stories and experiences of living in the Blue Mountains and how they  celebrate  Lunar New Year back home in their countries and now in Australia.

We would like to thank all our guests, BrianYiu and his staff at Canton Palace and all our Cultural ConneXions supporters for coming to celebrate this event and making it such a success to make it truly a wonderful and memorable event.
